Overview

As a division of the American Chemical Society, CAS is a scientific information and data management company dedicated to advancing scientific research through highly curated and normalized collections of publications and data. Its solutions are fueled by curated, connected, and analyzed published scientific research and patents.

As Head of Design and Research since 2022, I lead a multi-disciplinary team building tools that help scientists and researchers access the world's scientific knowledge across chemistry, biology, and intellectual property.

Impact

  • Expanded and managed the product design and research teams, growing from two to eight personnel while setting the culture and operational efficiency of the group.
  • Led research, discovery, ideation, design, and development for CAS SciFinder, the preeminent chemistry discovery tool on the market.
  • Contributed to the overall design of all product platforms across the entire CAS portfolio, constituting over $500M in annual revenue.
  • Designed an entirely new iconography system adopted across all products and platforms.
  • Led investigation, competitive analysis, generative research, design, architecture, commercial launch, and expansion of CAS BioFinder, a new biological and drug-discovery tool.
  • Integrated customer data and developed platform-wide in-product communication and marketing initiatives across the portfolio.
  • Pitched and championed CAS Newton, an agentic research experience that empowers scientists to ask complex questions and receive authoritative answers grounded in empirical research from the CAS Content Collection. The product concept was designed by a direct report under my oversight, with close guidance on design best practices, accessibility, and product quality. CAS Newton went from concept to commercial release in four months.
